Hey all,
I just created my blog to keep people updated on the progress of my adoption. To introduce people to me that aren't aware of my story.
I am a single male and adopting a child from Vietnam. It has been a long process but hopefully I will be receiving a referral next year sometime. I started the process in August 2008 so it has been over 2 years and probably another year or so until I travel. For those that aren't aware Vietnam is really the only Country option for a single male. Other Countries don't seem to accept that a single male can be a great parent.
Being a single male has really limited my options at becoming a parent. Children's Aid doesn't really accept single males or single parents at all for that matter. Private Domestic adoption is kind of a no go because what female (probably young) that is going to be making the devastating decision to give up a child would choose a single male to raise her child. As mentioned above I don't think there are any other Countrires Internationally that adopt to single males, that is what my research has determined anyway. So Vietnam it is.
I am going through TDH in Vankleek Hill Ontario because I have had friends that adopted Internationally from Vietnam via TDH and they were very happy with them. In all of my dealing with TDH so far I am very happy with the level of service and support they have provided me.
I hope that I can provide some insight to others out there that it is not only females that have the urge to become a parent. I knew that I always wanted to be a father, approaching my late 30's and still single knew that if I wasn't going to have a biological child, I still was going to become a father. That is why instead of focusing my thoughts on finding a wife to have a child with I would focus on "becoming a father" on my own.
I hope that my journey will provide a different perspective to people out there and that my journey may inspire other singles that we can do it on our own. It may not be an easy journey but with the love and support of those people close to me I know it will all be worth it in the end.
Les
